The Anatomy of a Home Plan
A blue-ribbon home - one that looks intriguing and appealing, functions properly, and provides years of satisfaction and reliability - is the outcome of irresistible design, incredible materials, and phenomenal craftsmanship. But, it's also the result of a champion floor plan that specifies to the builder exactly how your home will be constructed. Let's take a look at the make up of a home plan and the inclusions you can expect within its framework.
COVERSHEET
Included with many of the plans, the coversheet depicts the artist's rendering of the exterior of your home. It will give you a representation visually of what your home will look like once it's completed, landscape and all.
PLOT PLAN
A plot plan includes a dimensioned and scaled drawing that previews the details of the property, including all lot lines and structures. The plan clarifies the outline and dimensions of the property and all other applicable structures. This includes the show and dimension of all front yards, rear yards, side yards, courts, etc.
FOUNDATION
The foundation indicates the layout of the basement or walk-out basement (if applicable), crawl space (if applicable), and the type of foundation (slab, pier, etc.). For your convenience, all necessary dimensions and notations have been recorded, along with advisements on how your foundation was customized to suit your specific needs or site condition.
FLOOR PLAN
The floor plan identifies the placement of walls, doors, closets, electrical outlets, plumbing fixtures, columns, and beams for each level of your home.
INTERIOR ELEVATIONS
Interior elevations supply views of special interior elements such as fireplaces, cabinets, built-in units, and other features of the home.
EXTERIOR ELEVATIONS
Exterior elevations illustrate the front, rear, and both sides of the home with all details of exterior materials and the required dimensions.
SECTIONAL DIMENSIONS
The sectional dimensions area displays views or segments of the home spliced into cross-sectionals from the roof to foundation. These pages emphasize important structures such as load-bearing walls, joists, trusses, stairs, and other configurations critical for structural construction.
DETAILS
The details portion exhibits construction how-tos of certain components of your home such as the roof system, stairs, deck, etc.
DESIGN ORDER
The design order coincides with the selection of design features (standard and optional) for the exterior and interior of the home. It reviews the work up of design concepts and elements chosen when meeting with design professionals to personalize home details (floor coverings, countertops, cabinets, etc.).
MATERIALS LIST
The materials list gives quantities, dimensions, and descriptions of the building materials necessary to construct your home.
SELECTION BUDGET WORKSHEET
The selection budget worksheet provides a calculation of how much your new home will cost in its entirety. To compute building expenditures, we've included all the important variables for a comprehensive figure based on: actual materials and design features, area, shape, wall height, number of floors, and support requirements. The cost estimate prices all construction expenses (labor and material costs) and an approximate square foot dollar amount. This may help you modify your plans to meet your budget, if necessary.
